The whole Tad and Zelda article made me think about sociology and our everyday life...
Indeed doesn't the society makes choices for us sometimes? That is what I wonder.
Why would a wealthy kid be able to go the best school in the United States because he can afford it, and why would the poorer kid unable to get a high education just because of money? This could sound ridiculous but so true. But doesn't our society value education though? I'm sure that if you ask any parents in this country, wealthy or not they will tell you that the most important thing that they want for their kid is a good education, a nice job they like and they want them to prosper. So why is it so difficult for people with less money to get into the colleges they want? If the society pretend to value education, then how come this value doesn't fulfill the reality.
This article on Ted and Zelda made me think about the society's values that are not apply to this society like education and the real need of money to get high education -> a nice job -> make good money. What happened to the American dream where everyone, even the lowest class of society, should be able to reach the highest level of life?
This article on Zelda and Ted made me think as well of how much society influence our daily life. Indeed Ted and Zelda's future is not only decided by their choices in life, but by the choices people and society make for them.
Zelda will probably soon be a wife and a parent, She has to go to a nursing school.
Zelda doesn't to go to her nursing school but it is what people expect her to do, it is what society expects her to do because of her role. She could have been the best hard worker, the smarter, the nicest girl, the most helpful, she wouldn't have ever made it through because she chose to be a Mom. Her role in the society is more important to people than her own independent decisions and wishes.
More than their new role in society that gives Ted and Zelda a hard time to do what they want, we can also think of hypothetical situations that might had happened in our society because of the pressure it puts on people.
How about infanticide ? There is more and more infanticides in the young Mom population. Why? Maybe because our society put so much pressure on those young Moms that they can't handle it.
This is one way this journey may have had turned out.
"The infant mysteriously died in her care"... I wonder, did the society put too much pressure on Zelda this time ?
